Reverse Board & Train
A gentle, effective, and enlightened approach to dog training
So many of us want a well trained dog.
But it isn’t enough to want, wish, or hope we’ll have one.
To achieve the goal of having a well trained dog, the companion that most people dream about, it requires making a decision to figure out how to make it happen and then taking action.
And since we know that dogs are what we refer to as “contextual learners” - they learn best in relation to their own environment, science tells us that with our "Reverse" Board and Train program aka our "Happy Home" Intensive program, you're giving your dog the best possible chance of blossoming into the best version of themselves as they are learning organically in the environment where most of their "bad behavior" happens.
As a result, the learning curve is shorter, results happen faster and your dog associates the pleasure of learning and growing to their home turf.
The best part?
This program is not contingent on you being home.
Why is this Program More Effective than our Traditional Board & Train program?
The reason our "Happy Home" Intensive program is more effective is threefold:
Contextual learning is based on a constructivist theory of teaching and learning that takes place when a trainer is able to present information to a dog in such a way they are able to construct meaning based on their own experiences.
Training happens in real time. We call this real time training "spontaneous training". Instead of setting up controlled "training sessions", by having one of our lead trainers in your home throughout the entire day, we're able to "capture" behaviors as they happen and then reinforce those behaviors so they become what we refer to as "default settings" in your dog's nervous system.
From a training perspective, this is the most elegant and natural way to teach a dog everything they need to learn in order to blossom into your dream dog.
- The follow through training on the part of the dog parent is a lot easier than if the dog was sent away to be trained since the dog has already associated the new teachings to their home turf.
How Does it Work?
Our “Reverse” Board and Train Business Hours program, (aka our "Happy Home Intensive" Program) is offered in 2 distinct categories:
A) For puppies between the ages of 8 weeks to 18 weeks of age
B) For dogs 5 months and older.
How Does it Work for Puppies 8 weeks to 18 weeks of age?
We offer our "Happy Home" Intensive program for puppies 8 weeks of age to 18 weeks of age, either as two 3 hour sessions per day (one in the AM and one in the PM) or 6 consecutive hours per day - depending upon what is best for the individual household.
In addition, each "Happy Home" Intensive program comes with a free private training follow up session for every 5 days of training, a free 7 week series of Puppy Kindergarten classes, and a free 7 week series of Virtual classes.
*Minimum 5 day program
Why is this Karma Dog's #1 Recommendation for Puppies?
When we bring home a new puppy, the all important bonding process that takes place between you and your pup is a critical time in his/her life. This is also referred to as the developmental stage called the "imprinting period" that behavior specialists regard as being the most impressional time period in a young puppy's life. Veterinarians all agree this is the most effective time to train a puppy.
How Does It Work for Dogs 5 Months and Older?
We offer our "Happy Home" Intensive program for dogs 5 months and older, either as two 90 minute daily sessions (one in the AM and one in the PM) or 3 consecutive hours during the day - whichever is in the best interest of the dog.
In addition, each "Happy Home" Intensive program for dogs 5 months of age and up comes with with a free private training follow up session for every 5 days of training, a free 7 week series of Basic Communication classes, as well as a free 7 week series of Virtual classes.
*Minimum 5 day program
Why is this Effective?
When a trainer is working directly with your dog on their home turf, they can see exactly what the triggers are that are creating your dog's unwanted behaviors and work to alleviate your dog’s responsiveness to those triggers in real-time. In addition to teaching alternative behaviors to your dog's triggers, they are simultaneously setting them up for future success.
